GMS Designated Emphasis Open House

Shanghai

19/10/2020 12:00 am

5:30 - 7 pm

Online on Zoom

Please join us for the Fall 2020 Virtual Open House for DE students, faculty, and anyone interested in joining the DE!

Come to learn about the GMS Designated Emphasis (DE, a PhD minor), play urban-themed pictionary, and meet with core faculty, faculty affiliates, and other DE students. We will also share funding opportunities through the GMS DE and GMS research initiatives during the 2020-2021 academic year.

Urban form and process are deeply implicated in the ongoing crises of systemic racism, climate change, and the global pandemic. How can we better understand how the structure of modern cities has contributed to the problems, and how it can contribute to their solution? Join Global Metropolitan Studies core faculty Brandi Summers, Desiree Fields, Joan Walker, Alison Post, other GMS faculty, and graduate students in a short discussion of how GMS research initiatives can contribute to solving pressing urban problems.

We’ll pay for your dinner! $20 dinner subsidies are available for current DE students and potential DE students (pre-qual PhD students), offered to the first 30 RSVPs who participate fully in the festivities. Please join us!
