Join us for a colloquium on municipal capacity in Latin America!
Municipal governments are increasingly responsible for vital public services in Latin America and other regions, yet vary in their ability to meet these obligations. How can we understand this variation, and contribute to improvements? This colloquium will focus on the conceptualization and measurement of municipal state capacity in Latin America, and engage with recent explanations of variation in the region.
Berkeley PhD students Isabel Currie (GMS and City & Regional Planning) and Isabel Montini (Political Science) will comment on their presentations and suggest avenues for future research.
The session will conclude with a general discussion among participants about how the study of local state capacity should move forward.
This event is co-sponsored by Global Metropolitan Studies and the Department of City & Regional Planning at UC Berkeley.
Light refreshments will be provided.
