Faculty Searches

The Global Metropolitan Studies Program is adding five new faculty members. We have hired two new faculty members and are searching for a third in 2007-8.

Environmental Planning: Jason Corburn has joined the Department of City and Regional Planning as GMS' first hire.

Comparative Metropolitan Studies: Alison Post Will join the faculty in 2009.

Metropolitan Infrastructure Systems: we are searching conducting a search for a faculty member for this position in 2007-8. Four short list candidates have been selected -- more information on them is available here.

Two additional positions on comparative metropolitan social science, planning, and development will be advertised in the coming years. Faculty members whose work crosses disciplinary boundaries are especially sought.

The new faculty hires will join with nearly 70 Global Metropolitan Studies faculty affiliates to create new opportunities for research and education on the campus. Founding departments for GMS are City and Regional Planning, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Geography, Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning, Political Science, and Sociology. Additional departments that include many active faculty members include Architecture, the Energy and Resources Group, Environmental Sciences Policy and Management, and Public Health. Faculty members from Anthropology, Business Administration, History, Economics, Public Policy, Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Information Management and Systems are also participating in the initiatives as faculty affiliates.

Interdisciplinary search committees developed the position descriptions and oversee the application process. The new hires will be affiliated with GMS, and teach GMS courses, but will select a home department from among the departments overseeing the program. Watch this page for announcements!
